I don’t understand why people have this opinion.

If we go on a pretty nice tear and make it deep in the post season I don’t see why the guy won’t sign here. Winning changes everything.

    You’d be surprised.

dvorak, schmaltz, Keller, Chychrun, OEL....all signed long term contracts. I think it’s 50/50 for sure.

Only one of them really had any clear options though.

Agreed. But those RFA’s had every chance to sign a shorter term. Or at least negotiate one.

I don't think Chayka makes this move without a guaranteed long term extension.

It's not worth giving up the assets.

Hall just strikes me as the kind of guy who would love a bidding war in free agency. I don't want Chayka paying out the ass for a guy who's going to walk at the end of the season. If he does actually sign an extension, great, fantastic, don't have an issue with it. I'm just not sure he will.

Imagine an anchor contract. It's not worth giving up those assets any way.

I don't know any of them or their motives but imo the term and rates they were offered would have been extremely difficult to turn down. In the case of Hall it's unlikely money will make his decision as he has lots and will get multiple offers of lots more if he chooses free agency.

His agent is Marner's agent, known for wanting to test free agency.

His agent is notorious for pushing guys towards UFA. He's not going to pass up a chance to be courted by every major team in the league.

He’s still obligated to take the offer to his client. In the end it’s the clients call.

I said that about Duchene. He took a pass. Hell, even as much as JT lived it up, he went where he wanted to go all along. Unlike JT, Hall will be on this third NHL team. He ought to have a little more figured out. JT was like a 28 year old still not married to the same girl he’d been dating since age 16. Hall has played the field and sewed the oats. He knows what’s important to him at this point.

If he likes Meruelo and Tocchet and the room and especially if he likes Scottsdale and the associated tax and cost of living benefits, he’ll sign.

Am I right to think that only the team that has Hall under contract can offer him a 8 years deal? I cannot remember the rules.
