    Even Strength Production from '18-present

    Scheifele 71 pts. 2.45 pts/60
    Wheeler 63. 2.35
    Laine 37. 1.6

Scheifele & Wheeler sure are mediocre, the **** does that make Laine

I agree with your post re- traffic in front of the net, and for that you need the bigger guys to do that like Wheeler, Scheif, and Lowry. A lot of our forwards like Connor, and Ehlers are to small to take the beating to stand in front of the net - they are more finesse players, so that does pose a problem in this respect.

The team as a whole hasn't been really good since last Christmas. Any stats, individual or team, were boosted by good results before that time.

It's been quite a while since this team has been really good.

    Scheifele 51.53 GF% (101 GF, 95 GA)
    Wheeler 48.62 GF% (88 GF, 93 GA)
    Laine 44.44 GF% (64 GF, 80 GA)

btw - i've given Laine plenty of props. He played fantastic to begin the year and the Minnesota game was probably one of his best games ever.

Alright, I was just pointing out that Schweeler(+Connor) have been a mediocre first line, which is accurate. Maybe I was wrong pointing at you but I know that some people think that their results have been better than they actually are. They’ve been middle of the pack and it has gone downhill since december last year. I think that the results have been worse than the sum of it’s parts, as I think that the whole top 6 is very talented.

This season will be challenging because of the weaknesses on our defense which greatly affects the offense, so my expectations aren’t as high as last season.

I don't disagree that CSW has been crap for the past 1.25 years. The only time i've felt the top-line has been dynamic has been with Ehlers. I just don't know what any of that has to do with Laine's poor results.

You don't have to - the purpose of my reply wasn't to convince you otherwise.
All I've said since the beginning of this thread is that he had a rough night with his shot -
Hopefully it doesn't carry forward -

The discussion turned from Laine to Schweeler, at least that’s what I was commenting on

If the top lines don’t get going next game, Iwould like to see Ehlers and Connor switch spots. ESL and CWR might work, me thinks.

I would suspect that it is also because that type of game plan doesn't come naturally to our skilled players.

If you go back and watch all of the highlight videos a theme emerges. All of our skilled younger guys generated the wast majority of their offense off the rush/walking the puck into a shooting area, getting open and finishing from the slot. In 2017-18 generating slot shots was the foundation of the system which is why the team was so dangerous.

Now our skilled players are being asked to muck it up, tip shots and fight for rebounds. It is a style of game that is foreign to most of them. No real surprise that they look disjointed a lot of the time.

Maurice is essentially doing what poor coaches and leaders do and trying to mold the pieces into his ideal instead of shaping the scheme around pieces he has.

Way to cherry pick stats that conviently remove two real strong ES scoring rate years from Laine.

poster i originally quoted was saying they (CSW) were mediocre for some time, interpreted as 2018-2019 since CSW was generally good in 17-18. Include 17-18 if you want, Laine is still behind considerably from our two mediocre plugs Scheifele and Wheeler.

Not going to spend much time on a thread that will be locked in a few hours...but you`ve done a great job of identifying the key system related problems with Maurice throughout this whole thread Surixon:thumbu:. Bottom line here is Maurice knows only one way to play - a conservative , low-event, low-risk approach. Each of his systems are conservative in nature, with the need for re-grouping that you`ve touched on here simply another example of this approach.
The underlying problem is that he has doubled down on this low-risk hockey to try address the weakened D this season - and in doing so, has predictably choked any remaining creativity out of the players. Ergo, little to no offence from anybody. Some posters have made reference to the fact that the on ice product is becoming quite boring, with much less excitement and entertainment value for the fans. I suspect that ultimately fan disenchantment will resonate with Chipman enough to precipitate a change in coach but the timing is very uncertain.

Yeah, but there is zero chance of getting that return for him. Not even close.

We are having just as much trouble scoring this year as we are defending.

I'm sorry, I know you are not them only one, but this idea is just completely ridiculous. Maurice has not in any way remotely tried to turn Laine into a plug. Telling him that he need to play better is not telling him to be a plug. Neither is telling him that he can't just stand around waiting for his teammates to feed him the puck so that he can be the shooter.

hasn't laine and ehlers on the same line fallen flat the last 2 years. laine complaining about the line he was on ehlers was 1/3 of it for 2 years. on a side note its time to move roslovic off the top 6 and move Perreault back. he is trending to be a bottom 6 player.

Roslo looks good for stretches and then looks like crap for stretches, don’t think he’s smart enough for a top 6 role, just seems like a dumb player with zero hockey sense!
