he's only near ppg player b/c of his hot start 10 pts in 5 gp. since he's netted 4 assists in 10 gp.

the difference of 3-5% if considered substantial now?

    PlayerxGF/60xGA/60
    Nikolaj Ehlers2.372.67
    Patrik Laine1.862.15
    Mark Scheifele2.152.66
    Kyle Connor2.12.82
    Blake Wheeler1.882.56
    Jack Roslovic1.892.66
if Laine is on the ice for 0.5 xGA higher than his current efficiency he's right there in the doldrums with Wheeler and Roslovic. That's considered substantial?

Funny, Laine fans hated when people brought up his xGF, Corsi etc in the past but now they're boasting about it

Makes no sense to me. Using this logic, Laine should have more goals now than in previous season starts. This year he has played something like 60% of even strength time with Scheif, whereas in 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 he hardly shared ice time with him, with exception of one stint last March, in which Laine also didn't score goals.

People will ALWAYS find ways to complain about players they have negative personal feelings about, it's sad really tbh.

Laine gets one on a blast from the point.
Too bad he can't play Dallas every 3rd or so game!

You do have a point there. I guess time will show the end results of his emphasizing other parts of his game. He does look more in tune with the full game, now that he ishustling more than just to get open in opponents end.
He is exciting to watch when he starts attacking opposition, even without the puck, and finishes his checks! Never quite as exciting as his one-time zinger's blowingbygoalies into the net and out in a blink, tho!

Yah, that too. It can be very realistic that the attention he has drawn, because of his game-changing, all-world shot is adding to his not scoring as regularly this year. Sucks but that is top-level league in the world at its core. Teams evolve and strive for best preparation against next opponents. Laine is evolving too!
His over-all game and hope for his scoring too unleash again, along with his more focussed efforts all over the ice!

Looks to have worked immediately. Scheifele looks good again and Laine is getting chances more than before. Connor has been better too. They fit together.

That line have some work to do still. Had really good flashes.

Laine was again often the first man back on defense. When Stars had longer ozone plays Laine was at his position and higher on field than Scheif.

Apparently with last night's goal Laine surpassed Jagr as the european player with most goals before turning 22. A bit meaningless stat but there you go.

I liked the play where he picked off the pass to the guy in the slot who would have had a 1-on-1 with Hellebuyck. He's playing really defensively as of lately, I wonder if he's over-compensating or if it's part of the game plan?

Can this be true. I haven't read it in Finnish tabloids?! Eeeh, don't want to search for it but it's probably there somewhere.

Not a bad stat though. Could be worse.

And while I support Winnipeg and naturally Laine, I've been watching more this season than ...ever. NHL I mean. What I've seen, is a more mature Laine. I don't see a chip in his shoulder that much even when he's not scoring. Defensive plays and all around game is way better. Sure he can shoot. But he doesn't always have to, though I admit, I like him to score like 10 in a game or something. But Winnipeg first.

And yeah, the blender might have been bought at... non-discount this time? Doesn't matter. Hope this keeps up the momentum.

From a recent article at NHL.com. That one ^

"Coach Paul Maurice has pushed Laine to focus more on play away from the puck and in the defensive zone. In his fourth NHL season, Laine said he better understands the importance of those elements."

And some people still want to complain about him not racking up goals instantly this season when it has been obvious all the time whats going on. Smh.

Laine is awesome, im happy for the Jets that they have him.

So why would a dip**** coach want to limit an elite shooting talent by turning him into every other dime a dozen player.i can't wait until these method coaches are gone from the game. You want coaches who optimize based on team talent.

100% agree with you. These type of coaches absolutely ruin the game and make it a grind fest. Just so boring to watch, that honestly I am less and less interested to even watch the Jets games, as long as this type of coach is coaching them. Well, at least better and longer sleep lately. So gotta thank Maurice for something at least, I guess...

Laine was having a great game. His passes were crispy often started offense especially on first. Stole pucks and got to premier shooting positions a lot.

The only major thing lacking in his game right now is that pucks are not going in. If he and CSL can continue playing like that, they will get rewarded eventually.

He played so well last night that I knew I'd wake up to him having 0+0.
