Great description. Playing out the string. Not a care in the world. That's our Alex.
Sounds like a $4.9M 4th line center (or is it wing?). Good!!!! We needed someone to replace our$5.8M 4th line center (or is it wing?)
David Clarkson II
David Clarkson's contract was hideously g-dawful because it couldn't be bought out and his only contribution to the org was potential local prospect development by coaching at UAHS. Wennberg, contract-wise, isn't even in the same universe as him.
I had a dream last night Wennberg scored. I was stunned.
Then I woke up... I was still stunned he scored, even in a dream.
If I was dreaming about Wennberg, I need to rethink things in my life. Like maybe I am watching too much hockey.
Was he in a Monsters uniform?
God, I hope not.
Clarkson is no longer the High School coach at UA. This guy is (scroll down)
bobby Ryan for wennberg and a pick?
anisimov and boedker for wennberg and a late pick?
Wait... WE’D be giving you a pick for Bobby Ryan? Absolutely not.
If there was no retention, I’d probably do the second deal.
looks like he wasn’t the coach last year either. I’m betting he’s no longer in Columbus after his rights were traded. He probably moved somewhere more tax friendly.
Ryan has the shorter deal albeit with the higher cap hit, so it would give you guys the potential to get out of a contract faster whereas Ottawa bets on wennberg recovering a little but of value in a change of scenery. Ryan has produced better than wennberg in recent history hence the pick. With Ryans production this year it could be another drop-off in which case I would understand your reaction completely or it could be the off ice circumstances that are effecting him. If not a pick than a prospect maybe?
I would also do the second deal since boedker hasn't really been playing for us and anisimov has been in and out of the lineup. Getting that extra pick helps and again maybe wennberg just needs a change of scenery.
No. You pay us to take on the Ryan contract. This is non-negotiable.
ok then that deal doesn't work. That is perfectly fine as I said Ryan has the shorter deal. It was essentially on the basis of trading a shorter albeit higher cap hit contract for a longer and lower dollar amount contract
Clearly time to change up your sleep meds.
Agreed, I always liked Boedker and even Arty could be somewhat useful for our depleted C position
Since his last goal on Oct 21, Wennberg has 0 goals and 5 assists in his last 21 games.
This is essentially a contract year for him. If he gets bought out, he loses $10.6 million in earnings from 2020-23. Someone will probably give him a one year $1 million "prove it" deal, so call it a $9.6 million potential loss.
If this is how he performs when it's absolutely vital for him to show something, then the answer on what should be done is clear. Buy him out this summer. Start scratching him soon so he doesn't get injured and there's another Dubinksy LTIR situation.
Jarmo Kekalainen's failure to buy this loser out last off season was about as poor a decision-both financially and competitively- as one could make. We do not need this guy to guide a rebuild. It's way beyond his ability.
Am I to take this to mean you think Wennberg isn’t very good and should already have been bought out and that you blame Jarmo for not doing so?
You have an outstanding ability to grasp subtleties.
You can be difficult to read at times.
Wennberg’s presence on the roster is a barometer on where we stand to allow a guy making this kind of money and playing so offensively neutered reflects poorly on Jarmo IMO. One other Jarmo move that grates me was spending two 2nd rounders on Dzingel who looked to me to be not much different than Duclair. The latter’s goals would actually be quite welcome here though neither of the two were going to mesh with Torts. (That GM/coach alignment is a whole other matter for another day).
In any case, despite being an effective PKer, saying goodbye to Wennberg would be welcome by me.
I'm not sure who you're talking to.
PLD and Nyquist recently joined the ghost squad too
I loved the pick when Wennberg was selected. I thought he was going to be a Selke contending middle six centre. Even last year I thought he was bound to bounce back and be a really solid penalty killing 3rd line centre that others wish they had. Last week I was convinced he was a useful, if slightly overpaid, pk specialist with some value 5v5.
I just looked at the buyout calculator on capfriendly. Even I can't justify keeping him now. Put him through waivers and see if anyone picks him up. If he looks good in the minors, we bring him back up for a last shot. If he doesn't...buyout.
And I'm a fan of his.
