I doubt we send KK to the wjc
He's too good for that level of competition

Kotkamiemi should be sent. He can dominate a tournament like that a d then get some confidence back

correct, he's recently turned 20, you can't turn 20 before Jan 1st. So for Fairbrother this was his only shot as he'll be in Laval next year.

last year at least made more sense not to send him since he was doing so well. They sent Mete when he was struggling so I thought it should at least be considered as possible.

Needs to dominate so his confidence comes back. Still, that's just logic thinking, I don't think Molson and co. have the same views for some reason.

I like the idea of sending Kotkaniemi away from the show in Montreal. Could give Poehling another run with the big club.

Poehling doesn't deserve another run with the big club atm.

I hope KK goes to WJC . Would be a good experience for him and give him a chance to dominate that and come back with extra confidence .

Gives him a break from what's happening here and go have fun for a couple weeks

I would not call up Poehling, he needs to be a lot better first before I'd even consider it and even then I don't think I would.

Deserving is a fallacy not an argument. That's the same fallacy the coaching staff uses when we see Cousins and/or Weal on the power play or on the top lines. That's the same fallacy the GM uses when he keeps signing plumbers and fourth liners. They work hard, therefor they deserve a chance!

Poehling needs more time in the AHL and I agree, but crafting a fine blade requires a hot forge. The forge next to Domi or Danault is warmer and ultimately the goal is to win games not to run a meritocracy.

I'd make the call regardless. We certainly aren't winning with Cousins/Weal/Thompson at the moment, so the real question: Is there anyone else we can recall that can help us win?

Hockey is not a philosophical discussion. But if you want to play semantics then WTK should not have phrased it as deserve a call-up but instead he should have said Poehling is not ready to play on the big team. The same way a twelve-year-old is not ready to play in Serie A football. I hope that sets your mind at rest.

Only to have it destroyed again once he gets back to the team by our Potato Head of a coach.

I agree with him, except the recall is not about getting a player who is perfectly ready, that's dreaming. You recall him, he plays while Kotka is playing the WJC and send him back when that's done. We're not breaking a player because of a recall stint, that's superstitious really.

In any case if there's a player in Laval that could help us win better than Poehling and is a left handed shot, you recall him.

I don't think Kotkaniemi goes to the WJC as well but at 19, he is not too good for that competition. Just cause the Habs prematurely inserted him at 18 cause we needed him at center, it don't mean he is all of a sudden better than his piers in the same age range. He's got talent and skill with high hockey IQ but he's a long term prospect.

Did Mete dominate the WJC at 19?

Way to early. He's playing NCAA as a 18 year D man like Harris last year. At the moment he is a nice piece to have but we won't know if he is a grade A or B until his age 19 season IMO. Even then it's a bit early.

Pretty sure he is playing in a sheltered role this year? Anybody know his ice time and what pairing he is playing on? PP or PK time?

Struble won't make the WJC as a 18 year old but maybe as a 19 year old if he gains momentum this year and then heading into next season

What's the probably guess Norlinder is on the Swedes roster for the WJC? I'm assuming he's got a good chance?

    So basically 3, 4 or 5 guys?

    - Caufield and Romanov should be fun to watch
    - Not expecting much from Olofsson but maybe he surprises. Look at the difference between Poehling as a 18 year old vs 19 in that tournament.
    - Norlinder is the guy I really want to see.
    - Not sure if Harris makes it but I'd love to see him play on TV. I've been looking into this potential but have not really had the chance to give him my own eye test.

I'd say a pretty fair chance all told, teams always want as many good 19 year olds as they can get, especially on defense. Plus he's playing on a pro team right now which is another thing a lot of WJC coaches like to have around.

Imagine if he looks as good as Romanov did last year? :naughty:

He plays a different style of game and I'm wondering how much overall offense the Swedes have this year? From what I remember, they were not very offensive last WJC.
